The University of Mississippi

Application Details

The summer 2024 application is open! The program will run from May 28 – August 2, 2024.

The application deadline is February 15, 2024 at 5 PM Central Standard Time.

The application deadline has been extended to March 4, 2024 at 5 PM Central Standard Time. All application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be received by the deadline for consideration.

The Summer 2024 application is closed.

We plan for initial offers to be sent within a week of the deadline.

You do NOT have be an engineering major to apply, and there are no minimum GPA requirements! Any STEM background is welcome, and research experience is not required.

We highly encourage applications from underrepresented groups in STEM, including women, minorities, those with disabilities, and veterans. As the REU is funded by the NSF, supported undergraduate students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

A competitive REU applicant will:

  • be a STEM major (engineering is not required!),
  • have an interest in learning more about research as a career,
  • be a rising sophomore through rising senior as of summer 2024, and
  • have a complete application package.

  • transcript (official or unofficial)
  • ranking your interest in potential summer projects (see Project Descriptions page)
  • statement of research interests and future goals

The references will be asked to provide a confidential letter of recommendation for you. You will be asked to rank your choices for PIs/labs in which you wish to work.
